Alex Perullo
Professor Perullo conducts research on global expressive art forms and the rights of artists. He publishes both academic works and material aimed a wider audience, including materials intended for the benefit of artists in other parts of the world. In addition to his writing, he use photography as a means to enhance both our understanding of other parts of the world and to document the artists who participate in local music traditions.
As an anthropologist and ethnomusicologist Professor Perullo has worked in Africa for the past twenty years conducting research in several countries, including Madagascar, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, and Ghana. He has been the recipient of several fellowships and awards, most recently the 2015-2016 Fulbright Scholar Award at SOAS University of London where he was also a Centenary Scholar. While in London Perullo conducted research on Africans artists living in the United Kingdom. He also worked in archives throughout the city focusing on legal issues involving African traditions and traditional knowledge. Professor Perullo came to Bryant University in 2005. He is currently completing a manuscript on the impact of copyright law on musician rights in multiple African nations. He also runs the Global Studies program at Bryant University. |
