Anthony Sophinos wins the 2016 GS Essay Competition

Bryant University senior Anthony Sophinos won this year's Global Studies essay competition with his submission titled "Hungry for Change: The Tragedy of Global Hunger." In the essay Sophinos discusses the barriers to feeding the growing world population, a barrier that has less to do with a lack of food than a lack of access. As he writes, "The true crux of the hunger epidemic stems from the economic barriers of affordability and accessibility. Many of the world’s poorest do not have the means to purchase or produce enough food to provide proper nutrition for their family or are unable to access adequate nourishment. This is especially true in developing or third world countries, where economic and political turmoil create humanitarian crises such as chronic hunger and malnourishment." In winning the essay competition, Sophinos received a $150 check and a chance to submit to the Foreign Affairs competition taking place in a few weeks time. Congratulations to Anthony and thank you to everyone who submitted to this year's competition.
