Martha Kuhlman
Martha Kuhlman a Global Studies faculty member and an Associate Professor of Comparative Literature in the Department of English and Cultural Studies. Many of her courses are globally focused and interactive, engaging students in discussions regarding culture and literature. Kuhlman teaches courses in graphic novel, critical theory and Central European Literature. She is fluent in Czech, German and French and constantly works on keeping those languages active.
Dr. Kuhlman is particularly interested in popular culture in the form of films, literature, comic books and street art to analyze the reflection of art and literature on the people during that time. Professor Kuhlman mainly focuses on Central Europe, specifically Czech Republic and former communist countries that recently joined the European Union. She studies the cultural responses to the change over of communism to the free market. Her most recent research studied the responses to the 25th anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall. She has analyzed demonstrations, exhibits and articles about the aftermath of that period. She examined graphic novels involved with during that period of history and the coverage in the popular press. |
