Patricia Gomez
Professor Gomez came to Bryant University in 2006 and teaches different levels of Spanish. She loves the sense of community on campus and the relationships formed with students. Gomez has developed a course for Spanish speakers that will be offered in 2016 that compares service-learning in the United States and Latin America. In that class, students will participate in service learning in the U.S. and abroad.
Patricia Gomez is involved in multiple active projects. In 2009 and 2010, Gomez led a Bryant service-learning project called “Vamos al Parque” to Peru. There, she and the students helped girls between the ages of 12 and 18 that had been sexually abused or raped. She has also been involved with the Sophomore International Experience (SIE) to Latin America since 2009 and incorporates days of service on each of her trips. The SIE trips have brought her to Ecuador, Panama, Costa Rica, Chile and Argentina. Gomez has a passion for events on campus related to Spanish and it has been reflected in many events throughout the year. She has been involved with the Providence Latin American Film Festival (PLAFF) since 2010, and has brought this festival to Bryant. During PLAFF, Latin American movies are shown to expose students to foreign films. She also plans Taste the World, an event that occurs in the Rotunda of the Unistructure that allows students to try cuisines from other regions around the world. |
