Sandra Enos
Professor Enos is a professor of Sociology. She coordinates Service Learning and Social Entrepreneurship programs at Bryant. Professor Enos is a dynamic teacher who utilizes her research and skills to deepen students understanding of the world. Dr. Enos researches social change pedagogy, crime and justice and child welfare, and these topics are reflected in her publications. She is the founder of a social enterprise called Brains.Toys.Games, which seeks to address the issue of toy deserts in low income communities. She has authored publications on campus-community partnerships. Dr. Enos recently finished book about teaching students how to change the world. This book discusses the skills and orientation that students might need to become good citizens of the world. It highlights the importance of volunteering, philanthropy, advocacy and social movement.
Professor Enos's teaching, research and work in these areas has been very much influenced by a critical look at charity-focused projects. Each time these projects are completed, her classes have taken a hard look at some of the premises that underlie global development. Her classes have looked at childhood in different cultures and contexts, as well as the failures of international aid. The students who have been involved in these projects have found them transformative. Some students changed their majors; others went on to join the Peace Corps or to pursue careers in the law and other fields. |
